Johnny Carr and his camera

A little bit about me.

I was born in London England in 1949. I have always had a fascination with birds. As a child of 14 years I saved my paper round money in order to buy a reasonable SLR camera to photograph them. Still at 14 years I went to Skokholm to take photos of puffins and many other seabirds.
Getting married young, having a family and running my own business curtailed my birding for a while. Taking up of hang-gliding as sport and competing at world level meant that I had no time for bird photography.

In 2002 A friend showed me some pictures he had taken with a 2.3 mp camera, I was quite impressed Digital had moved on so far. I went and purchased a Canon D30 and shortly after a second hand Canon 100-400 zoom lens. I soon got the bug again for taking Bird pictures. I have since upgraded the Camera to a 20D and added a 600mm lens with a 1.4 converter to my collection.

In Dec '07 I invested in the latest Canon 1DS Mk3

I now spend a lot more time visiting bird reserves and having a wonderful time taking the pictures of the birds and then reliving the moments when I download them onto the computer, usually that same evening. I have compiled a large library of prints of my favorite images.

I have had this web site designed so that I can share the beauty of birds with you. Some of you may recognise me as you will have seen me lugging my lens and equipment around the various bird reserves.
